Fourme d'Ambert cheese is usually enjoyed alone or accompanied by fresh bread and dried fruits, such as walnuts or figs. It pairs well with red wines from the Rhône Valley, such as Crozes-Hermitage or Saint-Joseph. It can also be used in hot dishes, such as cakes or gratins.
